Juniata College, a nationally recognized top 100 liberal arts college situated in beautiful central Pennsylvania, seeks its next provost. The next provost will join a College with a clear strategic vision, an engaged Board of Trustees, a collaborative and experienced Senior Leadership Team, and a dedicated faculty and staff committed to academic excellence and student success. The provost is expected to begin the position during the summer of 2027.

Founded in 1876 with roots in the Church of the Brethren, Juniata College recently celebrated its sesquicentennial with a year-long commemoration honoring the people, milestones, and traditions that have shaped its history and continue to guide its future.

More than 1,300 students from around the world choose Juniata for its rigorous academic programs in the sciences, business, arts, and humanities, along with the opportunity to design an individualized course of study through Juniata’s distinctive Program of Emphasis model. Supported by two faculty advisors, each student creates an interdisciplinary academic path shaped by their interests, goals, and aspirations.

The College’s beautiful 110-acre main campus is located in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, nestled among the ridges and valleys of the Appalachian Mountains in the south-central region of the state. Within a half-hour drive of State College and Altoona, accessible to Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, and positioned between Interstate 80 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Juniata offers students the opportunity to experience both the natural beauty of the region and the resources of nearby communities.

The Leadership Opportunity

Juniata College’s new provost will join an institution ranked among the nation’s top 100 liberal arts colleges and supported by a stable financial outlook and consistent leadership. Dr. James Troha is entering his 14th year as president, and the current provost, Dr. Lauren Bowen, is in her 13th year. Juniata’s faculty and staff are exceptionally student-centered, and its liberal arts academic model is distinctively interdisciplinary. The College seeks a new provost with strong and compelling academic credentials who will advance academic quality and inspire excellence in teaching and learning. The new provost must have exceptional budget management skills and be able to make decisions, communicate with openness, honesty, and transparency, engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, and manage change with empathy. As a member of the senior leadership team, the provost will serve as the chief advocate for faculty and academic programs and as a key partner to the president in institutional decision-making. The provost will be the clear leader, advocate, mentor, and public face of the faculty and academic program, maintaining a highly visible and accessible presence across the College.

As Juniata’s chief academic officer, the provost reports to the president and provides visionary leadership for the academic enterprise, advancing academic excellence and innovation while strengthening the College’s longstanding tradition of individualized education.

Reflecting the breadth of the academic enterprise, direct reports to the provost include the associate provost, the assistant vice president of institutional effectiveness, the director of the learning commons, the museum director, the dean of international education, the director of Baker Institute, the laboratory coordinator, the director of community engaged learning, the registrar, the director of advising, the director of the Raystown Field Station, and the assistant to the provost.
