Canisius University seeks an accomplished and collaborative academic leader to serve as Provost. Reporting directly to President Steve K. Stoute and serving as a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team, the Provost is the university’s chief academic officer, providing strategic and operational leadership for all academic functions of the university, consistent with Canisius’s strategic plan, Answer the Call.
This is an exceptional opportunity to help shape the academic future of a nationally recognized, independent liberal arts Jesuit, Catholic institution with a rich 156-year history. The Provost will work closely with the President to formulate the university’s overall academic and enrollment strategy, and will collaborate with executive officers, deans, directors, faculty, and Trustees, while engaging staff, students, and community members to advance the mission of Canisius.
Canisius University is in Buffalo, New York, and currently serves 2,500 students through two academic divisions as well as the School of Continuing, Advanced & Professional Studies. The Provost also provides strategic oversight for several administrative offices, including:
- Library Services
- Office for Diversity and Inclusion
- Institutional Research & Effectiveness
- Enrollment Management
- Marketing & Communications
As chief academic officer, the Provost exercises academic leadership of the faculty in formulating and implementing the university’s strategic academic objectives and policies, fosters a culture of innovation in academic program development, and advances academic cooperation with external partners and other higher education institutions. The appointee is expected to take office in January 2027 or soon thereafter.
