Alaska Pacific University (APU) invites applications and nominations for an exciting leadership opportunity for the Provost, the Chief Academic Officer. Reporting to President Janelle Vanasse, the Provost serves as the academic head of the University, creating a collegial and inspiring environment for the campus community and extending the University’s outreach and impact in the region.
The Provost serves as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of the University in support of its Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. As CAO, the Provost is formally responsible for assuring the quality and distinctiveness of the University’s academic programs and the maintenance of academic standards. The breadth and depth of that responsibility means that the Provost assumes leadership, if not direct oversight, in almost all aspects of university operation.
As the largest city in Alaska, Anchorage is home to nearly 300,000 residents (40% of the state population) and is noted for blending urban life with wild beauty. Locals enjoy access to top-tier healthcare, diverse schools, and vibrant cultural centers. The city thrives with industries such as oil, tourism, and logistics, fueling a strong economy. Residents hike scenic trails, ski the Chugach Mountains, and fish in pristine waters—all within minutes of downtown. Festivals, markets, and museums celebrate Anchorage’s rich cultural mix.
