The Elgin Community College Board of Trustees extends its invitation to explore becoming the next president of ECC, a vibrant institution dedicated to transforming lives through learning, fostering innovation and collaboration, and promoting a sense of belonging. The college presidency presents a unique opportunity to lead an institution poised for continued growth and expansion. This includes guiding new initiatives such as the upcoming 150,000-square-foot Manufacturing and Technology Center and continuing the strong tradition of academic excellence and strengthening the community.
ECC is a comprehensive community college, established in 1949, serving communities northwest of Chicago, Illinois. Its service area is 360 square miles comprised of distinctive and diverse rural, suburban, and urban communities in the Fox Valley Region. The beautiful campus and grounds are noted for their gathering spaces, navigability, and cleanliness. The college is an Achieving the Dream Leader College of Distinction, and a Top 150 Aspen Institute school. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes ECC as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Community members of District 509 hold close ties to the college, providing a tremendous base of support, and relationships between ECC and the four K-12 districts are well-established and robust.
With a budget of $94 million, Elgin Community College serves about 12,500 students per year. Students cite ECC’s welcoming and caring staff as central to their experience. ECC’s programs of study include seven associate degrees for transfer and more than 30 transfer majors, a full complement of pre-collegiate courses, corporate and continuing education, and 90 career-oriented occupational programs. More than 2,200 degrees and certificates were awarded last year. ECC has 144 full time faculty and 155 part time faculty.
Elgin is conveniently located halfway between Chicago and Rockford. Residents enjoy the convenience of a smaller community, while living close to Chicago, one of the world’s largest and most exciting urban centers. Elgin serves as a hub for shopping, dining, and entertainment. There are concerts, theater productions, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra is well known for its extensive offerings. Residents enjoy a four-season climate with year-round family activities and festivals. Elgin has been ranked the 27th most diverse city, as well as the safest and most affordable city in the nation.
The salary for this position will be determined based on qualifications and related experience. It is expected the new hire will begin at $275,000 to $350,000 per year. A comprehensive benefits package is offered as well.
